Sugar Market Update – August 2026

Supply-side shocks are reshaping the outlook: EU and UK crop yields hit an 11-year low near 14.98 MMT due to heat and drought, Brazil Center-South output dropped 26.3% year-on-year to 3.903 MMT on wet weather, and Thailand's 2026/27 forecast fell 15.6% to 9.5 MMT. India bucks the trend with a projected 33.6 MMT crop, up 12%, though monsoon shortfalls and heat pose risks.

Globally, ISO forecasts a 262,000 MT deficit for 2026/27, with analyst production estimates of 178–179 MMT against consumption of 179–180 MMT, and USDA ending stocks pegged at 44.41 MMT.

In India, policy watchers are eyeing a limited duty-free import window of ~1 MMT before end-October to ease record domestic prices ahead of festival demand, as ethanol blending rises to 32%.
